Arlen Specter Defects to Democratic Party

April 28, 2009 Posted by Trenton Hansen

CNN.com reports just a few minutes ago that Arlen Specter has switched his party affiliation, and registered as a Democrat. Specter, a long-time Senator from Pennsylvania, has been criticized by Conservatives as being Republican in name only, supporting far more liberal causes than most of his Republican colleagues. Frankly, it wasn’t really a question whether, but when.

Sen. Arlen Specter

Sen. Arlen Specter

Specter’s move would give the Democrats a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, provided Al Franken wins his bid for the Senate in Minnesota against incumbent Norm Coleman. At this point, it is up to the Supreme Court of Minnesota to determine the outcome. Their ruling will affect the national political landscape.

I am left to wonder what Harry Reid promised Specter in return for his allegiance. Specter complained that the Republican Party has shifted far to the right in recent years. But a closer look reveals that to be a poor excuse. Conservatives across the nation are up in arms right now because the Republicans have ignored them for the most part, governing like Democrats in the last several years. If  Specter really wanted to leave the party because of a shift to the right, why didn’t he do it in 1994 at the pinnacle of Conservative influence in the Republican Party?

This is about Liberal Leftists in government taking more and more power by usurpation, rather than by election. They couldn’t care less what the people want. Pennsylvania didn’t elect a Democrat.

I am anxious to see what effect this has on the electorate. It will give the Liberals in the Senate carte blanche to move their agenda, and shift America even further to the Left. Are we ready to have nationalized health forced down our throats? How about nationalization of the auto industry? The coal industry?

There may be some hope in this, when all is said and done. The Liberal Democrats will be so carried away in the euphoria of their newly acquired power, that they will charge ahead undaunted and unafraid. To borrow a quote from Jeff Goldblum’s character in Jurassic Park, they will be so caught up in whether they can do a thing, they won’t stop to consider whether or not they should. The result may be historic landslide victories for Conservative Republicans in the next three or four elections, as the remaining Liberal Senators are all weeded out.

Patience and Faith, my friends.

Obama Pitches Economic Recovery Plans

March 24, 2009 Posted by Trenton Hansen

For those keeping score, Mr. Obama is setting records now for prevaricating while on duty. It’s getting hard to track.

Mr. Obama made several claims in his press conference this evening that deserve a second look.

Mr. Obama is confident that his economic plan will encourage growth over the next 10 years or so. When challenged with figures from the Congressional Budget Office, he answered that his figures require a higher growth rate than that allowed by the CBO’s calculations. Supposedly this will help us feel better.

The fact is that Mr. Obama is making projections based upon expected growth. They are nothing more than projections, and very optimistic projections at that. It is impossible to know how the economy will behave in the next few years, but Mr. Obama is certain his plans to increase taxes on the rich will increase economic growth. Please understand my skepticism.

Increasing taxes on the richest part of our population while cutting taxes on the less-wealthy segments has never produced economic growth, and there is no evidence that will change now. Increasing taxes always has the net effect of driving tax revenues down, while slowing economic growth. But facts like these are lost on the Left, which holds as an expression of faith their ability to ignore historical data and trends which challenge their claims.

Mr. Obama also fired back at critics in the GOP who have called his budget proposals “irresponsible,” by claiming that he inherited a $1.3 trillion deficit from the previous Republican administration. What Mr. Obama, and the Left, would like the public to forget is that for the past two years of the “Republican” administration, Congress and the Senate have been in the hands of the Democrats. Does that absolve the Republicans? Not by a long way, but it puts the lie to Mr. Obama’s claim.

So, it seems Mr. Obama is keeping to politics-as-usual despite his promises to bring change to Washington.

Palin Vindicated

November 3, 2008 Posted by Trenton Hansen

The AP carried a story tonight concerning Sarah Palin and the “troopergate” probe. Of course Mrs. Palin was completely exonerated of all charges. In fact, she was not only exonerated, the state personnel board found that there was “no probable cause to believe that the governor, or any other state official, violated the Alaska Executive Ethics Act in connection with these matters.”

The Democrats should probably find another method of winning elections. The politics of personal destruction that Bill Clinton introduced may work the first few times, but eventualy the people will clue in to those tactics. They may one day find mobs armed with pitchforks at their collective doors.

Alaskan authorities ought to prosecute Stephen Branchflower for ethics violations. Branchflower is the Democratic legislator who insisted on the investigation, and was obviously paid off by the state trooper around whom this story revolves. At the very least he ought to be unseated for attempting to interfere with an election.

Tonight, all the idiots who used this as evidence of Palin’s unsuitability are eating crow. And they should be.

GOP Challenges ACORN Registrations

October 14, 2008 Posted by Trenton Hansen

A federal appeals court has ruled in favor of a GOP challenge to the Ohio Secretary of State’s election policies, which included not fully verifying voter registrations made in the last several months. The spokesman for the Ohio GOP also complained that Secretary Brunner had not provided a way for election officials to act on questionable registrations in a timely manner.

Brunner’s refusal to act on this matter leaves questions as to her impartiality, especially in light of the recent problems with voter registrations submitted by ACORN.

Do Democrats Hate You?

September 2, 2008 Posted by Trenton Hansen

Democrats got some bad news yesterday: Hurricane Gustav wasn’t as bad as it could have been. It was downgraded to a category 2 storm, and made landfall to the west of New Orleans. Does this mean that God isn’t on their side after all? Will “Foul Fowler” really apologize now?

Not only was Gustav weaker than the Democrats had hoped, it missed our oil derricks in the gulf as well, which resulted in a drop of nearly $7 in the price of a barrel of oil.

What does it say about these people who have to hope for the worst to happen to people? There’s something deeply wrong there, and very disturbing.

Some Democrats Are Just Foul

August 31, 2008 Posted by Trenton Hansen

You’ve got to see the video to believe it. Former Democratic National Committee Chairman has a laugh enroute to North Carolina at the expense of the people of New Orleans. He chuckles at the prospect of hurricane Gustav making landfall at about the same time that Pres. Bush is scheduled to speak at the Republican Convention, then quips that it looks like “God’s on our side.”

So I guess Democratic Congressional Candidate Bennion Spencer is not so far off the reservation as I previously thought. Apparently there are other Democrats who think they are God’s chosen people.

Here’s the video:

Democrats and Non-issues

July 10, 2008 Posted by Trenton Hansen

The democrats are in an uproar today over Karl Rove’s refusal to testify before Congress regarding the firing of 8 federal prosecutors. He even has the audacity to ignore the Democrats’ subpoena!

Apparently, harassing a former political aide of a President who cannot be re-elected in a shameful attempt to uncover pretended improprieties is more important to the country than fixing our energy problem, or our spending problem, or even tort reform as it relates to our health care problem.

Pres. Bush did nothing wrong by firing those prosecutors. He has complete liberty to do so for any reason, or for no reason. The democrats happily ignore the fact the Pres. Clinton fired all 93 federal prosecutors while he was in office. Where were the Republican investigations? There were none!

The democrats are complaining about the prosecution of democratic former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman, but being a democrat nowadays is enough to justify charges of sedition and treason. At least the AP got part of the story right, the federal prosecutors in question were disloyal, but to America rather than to Bush.

We really need to send these weasels home. They need real jobs.
