Memorial Day 2009

Today is Memorial Day, 2009.

Today we remember and honor the brave people who have served and died for our country. They have earned the rest they so richly deserve.

Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day!

I have no servicemen in my immediate lineage. Both my father and my grandfather were either too young or too old to serve in any of America’s conflicts when they occurred. But they taught me patriotism, love of country, and a deep respect for those who laid everything on the Altar of God for the benefit of their countrymen, and profound reverence for those whose sacrifice included their very lives. I am therefore doubly grateful for those who do serve.

Today we honor those who fight America’s enemies on foreign soil. I consider myself a soldier of a different sort, dedicated to fighting the battles against America’s enemies at home. I only hope that my service is even one-tenth of theirs.

John Adams once wrote,

I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce, and agriculture, in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain.

From the Conservative Front to all the men and women of the Armed Forces, thank you!
