The Repugnance of Socialism

By Trenton Hansen

This is a great post

Some of his best points include:

“One must never mistake repugnance for fear.  The first is based upon reason, the latter upon emotion.”

Hear, hear! Fear is not a reliable motivator. Reason usually is.

“No free man or woman will tolerate the loss of liberty in exchange for material comfort.”

This is what Benjamin Franklin was saying in this oft mis-interpreted phrase

“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

which has been rewritten by many leftists to support their opposition to the Patriot Act and other American efforts to hold back the tide of Terrorism. But such an understanding of the quote cannot be supported by the context.

Unfortunately, Conservatism often loses in ideological battles because it refuses to promise anything, leaving the fate of its adherents entirely in their own hands. Socialism, on the other hand, promises some form of salvation, whether economic, political, or even religious, to those who might benefit most from it.

As George Bernard Shaw wrote, “A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.”

Our Founding Fathers would be appalled at our apostasy.

  1. In the immortal words of Forrest Gump, “Stupid is as stupid does.” Obviously the reality TV generation is proving just how stupid it really is by falling for Obama’s flattering words and falling in line behind him (or rather, underneath him).

I take great comfort in the thought that, should he be elected president, Obama will soon have to start trying to actually make good on those promises. That failure should be colossal and hilarious to watch, “and great [will be] the fall of it.”

Such is the inevitable fate of the houses of sand.

  2. Unfortunately, if the Democrats win as many seats as it looks like they will, when you count the liberal Republican turncoats, Obama will have more than enough support in both houses to get anything he wants.

Frankly, I think America is finished. We get what we want. This is what America wants.

  4. Stephanie says:

When people want something for nothing they find out rather quickly that there is no such thing as something for nothing. What an empty victory to just be handed everything you thought you wanted-only to discover that you have acomplished nothing, contributed nothing in your life and left nothing of real value that speaks of your stay here on the earth. What sacrifices will the American people be willing to make for their Country? What will be said of us if we do not let go of our own selfish desires and be willing to make sacrifices for each other? Here is what I want: I want the victory our founding fathers realize every time even one person in this Country becomes a true Patriot. I want the peace that comes from standing for Truth and the joy that – with hope – will come when people begin to discover that God has instilled within every person the light and power to create their own abundance. With that realization comes a need to fulfill one’s purpose, which purpose is not found in taking from society but contributing to it.
